CHE 350 Environmental Chemistry (5cr)
Topics such as air, water, thermal pollution, solid wastes, recycling, and the effects of foreign substances on living systems are discussed. The properties of the atmosphere, naturally occurring waters, sources, and effects of pollution, as well as ways to reduce pollution, are examined through detailed chemical analysis of selected compounds. A problem-solving approach is emphasized. The chemical principles of environmental chemistry are explained through laboratory experiments.
NSC 290 African American Perspectives in Science (3cr)
Through lectures, research, class discussions, group projects, and other activities, students will explore the contributions African Americans have made to the development of this country in the broad areas of science, technology, medicine, and invention. The course spans the years 1619 to 1999. The changing socio-political economic climate of the period will also be discussed. Three hours of lecture weekly. No prerequisite. Open to all majors.
BIO 499 Independent Study (2cr)
Selected topics and in-depth study in a specific area of the natural sciences are carried out under the supervision of a faculty member. Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.
